"ROMEO AND JULIET"

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written early in the career of playwright William Shakespeare about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately unite their feuding families.

I bet most of you knows this! The whole balcony scene, the whole "dying" thing, and of course, the whole love story thing. As far as I know, Romeo and Juliet has a lot of versions. It could be a stage play, a movie, or maybe used for a ballet performance. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous story that Shakespeare ever made.

"A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM"

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play by William Shakespeare. Believed to have been written between 1590 and 1596; it portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world

This play is actually special for me, because, back when I was in high school, we did this play and it just felt good being a part of the play :)

SHAKESPEARE, AN ARTIST.

For a requirement for our finals, our professor told us to write something about William Shakespeare. Just like what we did to Boccaccio, we can write whatever we like about Shakespeare and his time. So, I've decided that, since Shakespeare is very well known with his works, I will write some blogs about his works.

I've chosen "SHAKESPEARE, AN ARTIST" as a title because he is really a true artist in his own field :)
So, I hope you'll enjoy reading my blogs :D

LIFE during 14th century Italy: PAINTINGS

For my blog today, I have decided that I should feature the paintings during the 14th century. I don't know it just hit me, just right now, to make a blog about their paintings. And as I search for some information, I was fascinated with their paintings because most paintings are related to religion - mostly Catholicism; as a matter of fact, some of them are kind of familiar to me.

Early Italian artists adopted the techniques and traditions of Byzantine art: the gold backgrounds and timeless figures that give spiritual force to icons.

To give you some idea, here are some examples.

 It was just fascinating to see that those paintings are related to my faith, so I was just moved by looking at it :)

LIFE during 14th century Italy: LITERATURE AND POETRY

For my blog today, I've decided to start with Literature and Poetry of Italy during the 14th century. As Boccaccio as our inspiration, I said "Hey! I think I should start from where Boccaccio is really known for." So here it goes.

When it comes to Literature and Poetry during this time, there are some big names that we might know. And I'm here to enumerate some of this well known artists.

First of, we have FRANCESCO PETRARCH. Petrarch was the first humanist, and he was at the same time the first modern lyric poet. He's a psychological poet, who examines all his feelings and renders them with an art of exquisite sweetness.  He is pretty well known from his works such as Canzoniere (Songbook) and the Trionfi (Triumphs)

Another well known artist was DANTE ALIGHERI, the greatest of all Italian poets. Divina Commedia (Divine Comedy) made Dante immortal, and raised him above all other men of genius in Italy.

Last but certainly not the least is GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO. He did not actually invent the octave stanza, but was the first to use it in a work of length and artistic merit, his Teseide, the oldest Italian romantic poem. Boccaccio became famous principally for the Italian work Decamerone, a collection of a hundred novels, related by a party of men and women who retired to a villa near Florence to escape the plague.

After those great artists, more and more artists arise to be one of them and some actually followed their steps and made them as their inspiration.

LIFE during 14th century Italy

For our midterms, our professor told us to make blogs about life during the 1300's or the 14th century specifically in Italy. She also told us to use GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO to be our inspiration, a well known person in the field of literature and poetry.

We could actually write anything that interests us as long as it is related to the 14th century and Italy, too. We could write something on how they dress, how they entertain themselves, what are their means of transportation, anything!
